December 2012

Merry Christmas!!
I can't believe it is almost here! With the kids' last day of school today, it seems like Christmas is going to be over before I know it.

We have been doing lots of fun, busy things this season....

We put up our tree.  I think Rob was shocked at how fast I selected a tree this year! We were gone 30 minutes, driving and all!
Sydney had fun exploring the decorations!

Happy kids!
Dec. 1
Seth, Brenna and Grant played in the piano festival.  Brenna and Seth each played duets with friends, who are siblings.  They also played solo pieces along with Grant.  They all were rated Superior!

We did our tradition of decorating gingerbread houses.  We invited Rob's sister Melanie and Aunt Marilyn with kids Lydia and Jacob.

We made reindeer out of rootbeer bottles for our neighbors.

Brenna and Grant performed in their school Christmas program.  I have a couple videos of this that I will put up another day.

Our neighbors brought us these adorable chocolate covered marshmallows.  I think the idea is to put them in hot cocoa.
Santa's elf has been watching our behavior all month.
I had a little helper in the kitchen this morning.
Who could resist such a helper?
She is enjoying the presents already!
We hope you are all having a wonderful Christmas season.

Our fun Fall

Here are some activities we did this fall:

This is one of about six watermelons we grew in our garden this year.  I could not believe how big they were!  We could not even get the seeds to sprout last year.
They weren't quite ripe, but edible.
We went to the pumpkin patch twice this year with cousins.  They have a fun box filled with huge corn kernels for the kids to play in.  It resembles a sand box, but with corn.

On our Fall Break from school we were able to attend the Boise Temple Open House.  They remodeled the temple, quite extensively, and it was open for about a month to the public before its rededication.  Here are Brenna and Sydney dressed up in matching dresses for the Open House.
Grant wore this batman costume around the house a lot during October.
Another activity we did while on Fall Break is go to the zoo.  It was a crisp fall day.

We splurged for the carousel.

The second time we went to the corn maze/pumpkin patch, they had this fun tube slide.

Rob's Aunt Marilyn made us a count down chain for our trip in January to visit my sister.  Can anyone guess by the chain which  fun place we will be going as part of our trip?
Rob's brother Mike and family came to visit us one weekend in October.  Here is Rob holding their youngest, Isaac, and Sydney.  They are about five months apart in age.
It is hard to believe Thanksgiving has come and gone!  The Saturday before Thanksgiving I was able to participate in the Youth Cultural Celebration that correlated with the reopening of the Boise Temple.  It was an amazing experience!  It apparently was the largest cultural celebration in the history of the church, as far as numbers of youth participating.  The last count I heard was 9,202 youth!!  There were 30 stakes participating, divided into nine regions.  Each region was in charge of choreographing a scene with dances for the program.  I believe in most cases each individual stake learned a dance.  The scenes ranged from pioneers, the Bronco football team, patriotic/military, potatoes/computer chips(the local industry), missionaries, etc.  I had been asked to be the choir director for our region.  They had youth from each stake come to regional choir rehearsals to learn eleven songs to be sung throughout the program.  When all the regions combined the choir totaled 1,100 people!!  During the performance I was struck by the enthusiasm the youth had for our prophet.  They give me hope for our future!!

Happy Birthday Russell!!

Russell turned four on Tuesday!
All he wanted for his birthday was a racecar cake.

I tried, Russell, I tried. :)

On his birthday I went to a birthday lunch for some friends of mine who had had birthdays recently (how many times can you use the word birthday in one sentence?).  Russell got to wear a sombrero and got some fried ice cream.
Here he is with his good buddy sharing their treat.
He patiently waited until that evening when he was finally allowed to open his presents.  He got some preschool books of mazes and dot-to-dots, a blow-up punching bag and a little bike.
We sure love him!

Halloween!....and a little catch up

Happy Halloween!
Last Monday we carved pumpkins.  Do you like that spider-web?
Do you see Sydney in the background?  She has a funny habit of poking/rubbing her belly button.  She gets very upset if she can't have access to it, hence the unsnapped onesie.  The interesting thing is, both Brenna and my little sister Heidi did the same thing!  (Hope I didn't embarrass you there, Heid) Brenna and Heidi liked to play with their bellybutton while drinking a sippy cup, but Sydney sucks her thumb.
Here we have Leonardo, the Ninja Turtle.
And a masked Superman!
And the lovely Katara (from the Avatar-last Airbender cartoon)
And a Ranger (Yes, Sam, we all love those books!)
And a pumpkin who wasn't really in a costume/photo mood.
The whole clan!
We lucked out in that the weather was beautiful and in the 70's that day, so trick-or-treating was not a frozen experience.  Sydney really enjoyed eating her candy, but not until the end did she get brave enough to walk up to the doors with her siblings.  She made up for everything in cuteness, of course.

Here we have an actual video that uploaded to this here blog!  This is from our school's Open House/Ribbon cutting ceremony.  We are in an actual building instead of portables this year, which is pretty unheard of for a new charter school.  The first, second and third graders performed some songs.  Brenna has a solo part in the song that you will see in this video.  Apparently, out of 90 something kids, 80 something tried out for the solo.  Because of the large number trying out, the teacher selected two soloists, and our Brenna was one of them!  I was so proud of her for even trying out because she often claims she does not like to perform in front of people.

I apologize in advance for the poor camera work.  I was trying to dodge Tom Luna's head in front of me (our State Superintendent) and I had a monkey (Sydney) on my lap!!

I have another video of the rest of the song which is longer and so cute with all of their actions, but I have been trying for three days to get it to load, and it won't.  (arrgh!)

I hope everyone had a Happy Halloween!
